Swapping Like Motors

My son just bought a '89 3.0L boat with water in the oil pan. He found a mid '80's 3.0L motor that's complete. It's just a matter of removing the outdrive, pulling the existing motor and installing the replacement. Will there be any issues in using the existing outdrive?

nope gearing is the same for both

Just be fore warned there is always something esle to deal with. Budget yourself extra time and cash for the swap. It is a boat after all.
