Suzuki neutral switch

My Suzuki throttle control has a neutral switch. I need to squeeze the button in order to shift from neural to forward or reverse. Is that normal for a Suzuki control? Is there a way to set it up so squeezing the button keeps the engine in neutral? Could it possibly simply be a matter of reversing wires?

---I am confused.----On most controls there is a feature to lock out the shift function.-----Allows you to open throttle for starting and warm up.-----Hurry to your local boat shop and have them explain how / why this works.----Mistakes can be expensive

I finally found an owner's manual for my DF50. Evidently, page 39, this is normal.
