Hi, you might have seen the news about flooding in Norway,
I´m an aussie living here and our cabin had about 2 meters of water in it. After being there to see the damage I brought home my Honda 2.3hp motor and started work on it straight away....

First off it was in fresh water for around 4 days.

Remove and empty the fuel tank, clean tank, remove filter, clean and dry.
Remove air cleaner, wash in clean water and dry above heater.
Remove carb, remove and clean bowel and blow out carb with air and dry.
Tip up motor and drain oil (quite milky) and refill.
Drain gear oil near prop (came out like water) and refill.
Assemble everything, refill tank.

Pull start cord, started after 3 or 4 pulls, runs well at low revs/idle but above medium revs it coughs over and over but keeps running (like a fuel problem).

There was some oil/water coming from the exhaust.

My plan is to take off the carb again tomorrow and wash properly it in clean fuel, check everything again.

If anyone has an idea that might help it would be great, thanks in advance.
cheers, John

Hi,
Sorry you had this trouble.
My concern is that you may still have water in the air intake system.
Items 3 and 6 in the link below could hold a lot of water if not shaken out thoroughly.
Item one, the crankcase breather tube is also something that can deliver water to the intake after a sinking.

Items 3 and 4 in the link below could also hold water and deliver it to the air intake system.

As to water entering the gearcase, it should not have since it is supposed to be totally sealed. If there was water in there, then one or both of the seals has likely failed. Probably sometime before the flood. See items 20 and 21 in the link below.

Good luck getting this cleaned up.
