Stuck Tachometer

Hi Guys;

My first question here so... Here goes:

I've just bought an '89 (I think) Johnson 40HP VRO complete with control box and instrumentation, however the tach is stuck on 3000 RPM. I can flick the needle around, but it always comes to rest at 3000 RPM.

There doesn't seem to be a stop as the needle can go full circle round the dial.

Any clues?

I'm new to all this marine stuff so please bear with my banal questions.

sounds like u need a new tach,...u might make sure u have 12v and is grounded,12v when key sw is on,..

My tack needle was at 0 when first turning engine on. Stayed there until I taped on the face a few times,needle went to 1k rpms and is stuck there. Can anyone help

Sounds like you need a new tach.
