Stripped flywheel cover

I accidentally forgot to push the big plastic flywheel cover into position after servicing the Mercury 150 optimax (oh my!). As a result the plastic cover was misplaced by about and inch and the flywheel stripped the cover a couple of places. I removed all the little debris but the fly wheel cover now has a couple of ‘grooves’ where the moving parts touched the cover. I’m perfectly able to put it back into position and everything looks ok now that it’s on. But should I be worried about the grooves? Do I need to replace the cover? Seems to me to be of limited functionality but better safe than sorry. Thanks in advance for your advice.
