First time on here and recently purchased a Jon boat. The motor is a 15 hp four stroke tiller. seems previous owners neglected to grease the tilt tube and it is locked up in the swivel bracket. I am going to attempt the take weight of the motor to see if I can break it free. If not, I will cut the tube with a reciprocating saw between the clamp bracket and swivel bracket and deal with the removal off the boat. Just looking for guidance on the best way to take the weight of the motor? Is it safe to rig a sling around the motor to lift it? Can the motor be laid on its side with no issues once it is removed? Thanks in advance!
