Rudder packing

1976 Silverton might be dumb question can you repack a rudder with boat in water??? Thanks for any come backs bcclew

Yes....the rudder glands are not much different than a prop shaft's stuffing box...the big difference is that the rudder's shaft isn't always restrained...most of them will require some (vertical) support to allow access to the packing...
