Could someone recommend a shop that rebuilds and curves distributors? I am in Alaska and not aware o any local shops that do this kind of work.

Thanks

Robert

Robert, check with the local Hot Rod guys. Some of them fiddle the older ignition systems, and/or may know who has an old Sun, Allen or King distributor machine.

If they have the skills to operate the machine, they should be able to do your Marine distribor.
Many of them also have the machinery to re-bush.
However, they will need to see the Volvo Penta OEM curve graph.

Worse case, you do this "on-engine" while strobing the timing marks as you run through the rpm range up to the "full-in" advance rpm. IOW, let your engine be the Sun, Allen or King machine. ;)

The flyweights would need to be free from rust and lubricated........ but these are fairly easy to restore.
The flyweight return spring value is the tricky part (if they have become compromised by rust). The slightest deviation from the OEM spring value changes the curve dramatically.

Since the mechanical advance curve is not dependent on engine load, you'd be able to do this while in neutral and on the garden hose water supply.

Good luck with it.
