Pumps water before starting.

1997 50 hp Johnson. If motor don't start right away it will pee water just from turning over. Does that mean thermostat is stuck open? Then run for 5 min. pee water is just luke warm.

Correct ----It indicates that water pump is working.-----Nothing to do with thermostat.----Water will always be lukewarm when running.----If you just bought this motor install a new impeller.----Are you pushing the key in and holding it in while cranking it over ?----And find out why it is not starting up after 3 seconds before you burn up the starter !!

Sometimes I may hold the key in to long & flood it out. I have had the motor & boat for 2 years. Never ran it much, maybe a few times a year. The motor is spotless & never run much by the first owner, still had original spark plugs in it. I will change the impeller this year also thermostat, & plugs been changed. Thanks.
