Power steering pump fluid for 4.3 mercruiser lx

I have a 95 maxum 2000sr and noticed that my power steering pump had bad felt any fluid in it. I’ve googled what to use and gotten 15 different answers. What should I use?

you can use DEXRON, DEXRON II, or DEXRON III type ATF...

But if there was no fluid in the pump you should also be looking for a leak! The seals on the actuator can leak as can the pumps & rubber hoses…
