I have removed my outdrive, by hand I can move the forward cable easily into gear, when trying to get it to go into reverse it is extremely hard to move the longer cable. 8 out 10 times it will engage reverse, but I have to have a lot of tension on longer cable. Before I tear onto the lower portion of the outdrive, anyone have any thoughts? Boat runs fine in forward but no reverse last weekend on the lake. Any help would be appreciated. Also this is a hydraulic shift outdrive off of my 78 sea ray srv200.

Motor should running or in your case prop should be turned when shifting.
I have turned the prop while pulling each individual cable, going into forward the cable moves easily, pulling into reverse takes a lot of force and 3 out 8 times it will not engage reverse. While in the boat it will not engage reverse at all.......any thoughts on the possible issue or fix?
