Oil filler cap

Hi,
just bought a small teal fishing boat with an inboard diesel engine.
I'm still not sure of the type of engine it is and will get some good pics soon to try and identify it.

The main thing I need straight away is an oil filler cap as the current one is letting loads of oil out.

I have pics of the cap attached.

The engine itself has a symbol which is an L in a triangle. Anyone any ideas?

Thanks and hope to hear soon.

Steve

Its painted green but I dont know if thats its original colour.

I've had the filler cap all cleaned up and its brown.

It sounds like a Detroit. Can you find any numbers or a identification plate? Usually they will have those on the side of the motor. it may be painted over

Yes there are various numbers stamped on various parts. (Not on a nice neat plate).

On the head - 12111011
gearbox - 450-3180
block - 1612061 and then underneath this 151140

Please tell me this means something to someone!!!

I would take the cap to an auto parts store or a diesel shop and get a new one. Even better if you can bring the boat to the diesel shop and they can tell you what kind of motor it is and get a new cap for you
