Hi all, I've just bought my first boat with a Mercury 90 red band on.

Quick question if I may, when I prime the engine I pump the bulb about 10 times and then I notice that there is petrol coming out from where the petrol hose goes into the cowling (there is a joint there). Is this normal, and means I have over primed the engine, or is there something wrong and I have a leak?

Thanks in advance!

You have a leak.Tighten the pipe clip. When you say "there is a joint there",do you mean that the fuel connector has been removed?

There may be a rubber "O" ring missing or damaged inside the connector. When the fuel system is fixed, as you pump the bulb, it should become stiff. Once the motor is running, the bulb will become soft because a vacuum is then created by the fuel pump sucking fuel up to the engine.

Ahh, is this joint some kind of quick release joint? I must have a leak in it somewhere then, as it squirts air (and then petrol) when I pump the bulb. I'll take it apart tomorrow and have a look. Thanks all.
