Mariner 40ELO - 6E9 L - 430317

i believe it's a Yamaha mariner from 1991 but I can't match what I think it is to anything online

I'm interested in what is the the owners manual model and year etc I am curious what is the optimum spark plug I will need. It seems my lower cylinder is fouling out sooner (only happened once).

When i I bought the motor the previous owner used b8hs nkg plugs.

Im new to the boat motor world and the motor ran pretty good for a while.

Hi there, Your serial number is associated with model number 7040312NU which makes the engine year out to be a 1988 (1988 7040312NU Mariner Outboard Parts http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Merc/Mariner/1988/7040312NU/parts.html

The online serial number "chart" will show it to be a 1987....It's all the same though....
40C ELO 6E9-427343 - = 1987
40 EL 6E9-428358 - 6E9-431767 = 1988
