need to replace DP lower 1986 290dp

I need to replace my 1986 290DP-A lower. Will a DPS-A fit?

Short answer.... NO.

Go here and scroll left-to-right through the drive styles..... you will see when Volvo changed to the Gimbal style suspension.

You will need to stay in the AQ series drives..... of which will include up to the C, D and E styles. However, the E has the diesel exhaust outlet. It will work, but best to stay with the gasoline engine type, IMO. And be sure that the over-all ratio is engine model correct!

You will also run into two vertical shaft lengths (short shaft in the later drives) .... either lower will work, the shorter shaft requires the longer spline coupler..... $37. You will also notice a change to the aft prop cone nut threads!
All else remains same!

NOTE: Re-shimming of the vertical shaft bearing race is imperative. This must be done!
Be sure to get this race with the new or used lower unit!
