I'm looking at a used boat and the exhaust risers have discoloration on the paint. The explanation was a few years ago they got hot but the engine didn't kick out any overheating warnings (seems strange the engine wasn't overheating if the risers got that hot). Certified mechanic inspected it back then and compression tests were good etc., and thermostat and hoses were replaced (precautionary). No issues with the engine since then.
I'm having a mechanic inspect the boat and he will do a compression test. Assuming it comes back fine, is there a reason to be concerned? Is it a ticking time bomb just waiting for trouble due to unknown issues from the "overheat"?
