Mercury V8 TDI Stalling at Ide Issue

Need some advice Please.

I have a 2011 Volkswagen V8TDi 350HP Marine Engine and Bravo3 drive. It is in a Rayglass Legend 2800– which is a New Zealand build GRP 28ft powerboat, all up weight approx. 4tonne
Engine was installednew about 9 months ago, after sitting in its original crate in storage for anumber of years. This engine predatesthe still Volkswagen sourced current Mercuriser V8TDi 370HP.
The first 30-40 hours the engine ran faultlessly, for thepast 80 hrs it has developed a very intermittent stalling at idle issue. Engine can run fine for days, then it willstall at idle only. Starts againstraight away, no error code or warning buzzer.
When engine was installed, all new fuel lines, fuel filtersalso installed
Initial diagnosis identified fuel pressure drop in the railat idle and basically the engine wasrunning out of fuel and stopping. Frist fix was to replace the fuel pressure regulatorat the end of the common rail. Noluck. Second was to replace the high pressurefuel pump as potential due to long period of storage as new motor, some internalcorrosion may have taken place. No luck, still does it!
Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated, accompaniedby a fishing trip In New Zealand for anyone who has the magic answer!
Cheers

you never mentioned inspection or cleaning the fuel tank...possible it has accumulated a bunch of crud on the screen of the pickup tube....I'd be inclined to start there....

This fault was eventually fixed after many blind alleys including tank and primary fuel filter service, after a motor removal / reinstall and servicing of the secondary fuel filter / hand primer assembly and checking its associated seals, internal parts, and fuel line connections. Suspected cause was an air bleed after a hot run then cool down stage. Hope this helps someone somewhere.
