" After removing the stearing system from my 1963 6 cylinder 85hp mercury, I could not move the moter from side to side. Should I be able to move the moter by hand. I have already greased the upper and lower pivot points. "

"Jason.... Unless that engine has a steering brake incorporated into it you should be able to move the engine easily. In most cases, corrosion sets in at either the top or bottom swivel bearing (or both). The alternative to dismantling the assembly is to use a hand help propane torch and carefully apply heat to the top and bottom section of the swivel bracket (the housing that the engine swivels on). As you apply heat and apply pressure to turn the engine, you should feel the it start to free up, then heat accordingly and grease as needed. Good luck.
