Mercury 2004 - 140 XL SWB, 2 Stroke Outboard review

Hi Guys,

About to buy a boat with this engine on the back (2004 Mercury Outboard - 140 XL SWB) and I wanted check to see what your thoughts are in regards to this engine as I do not know much about it.
Any thoughts on its reliability, fuel consumption, maintenance etc...

Your thoughts wold be greatly appreciated.

Pay an expert technician a hours' labor to go over it and check its compression and maybe test run it in a tank or on a dyno.

I would check it real good it being a salt water engine as things tend to grow together if not maintained.....
