Mercruiser Service Bulletin regarding Alpha 1 sticking in gear

This publication has no date that I could find, but appears to go back a few years.

Since I had not seen this publication previously, it came as a surprise to how systemic the issue of sticking in gear seems to be - to the degree that Mercruiser found it necessary to send this out.

Are all of the suggested adjustment parameters accurate?

The bulletin is over 30 years old....and the assertion of "how systemic the issue of sticking gears seems" isn't really supported by anything...

There are so many reasons why this happens and what they did to fix it.What is shown in the bulleting is what needs to be checked

lack of maintainece , not removing the drive yearly fo lubrication.
worn shift lower and/or upper cable.improper adjustments
control box tightness
improper routing of the shift cable.
poor owner operation
lower unit shift shaft, "C": selector damage
too high an idle
shift interupt needs adjusting
shift interupter spring "soft" service bulleting to replace the spring

Their fix was to add a 'shift assist" in the system to help force a quick shift but the downside was increased cable core wear in the cables damaging the plastic core guide.
