Merc 115 4 stroke Hub Corrosion:

This 2019 [bought in 2020] new Mercury has only 100 hours. When I pulled the prop for lower unit oil change, noted that the hub had corrosion around the bottom half, in about 1.5" from the edge. A painter friend said that the edge [of the hub] was so sharp and the paint so thin that it could not cover it very well. Has anyone had this issue? Warranty will not help, we are going to sand to remove blistered paint, round the outer edge of the hub with 300 grit, use an 'etching' paint primer, then put lots of thin coats of Merc Black paint on it. Any better ideas out there? Thank you!
 
I should follow up and say that this is used in saltwater, has NOT struck any oyster bars or been banged around, skeg is clean and prop is unblemished, no reason for this corrosion.
