Max RPM for 1982 Evinrude 70hp

Hi

I have a 1982 Evinrude 70hp the book says WOT is 4500-5500 just want to know, can I rev much higher than that? With the 2.42:1 gear ratio and the boat being light and fast I can hit that with a 13 21p prop.

i know the 83 ver can rev to 6k not sure what’s changed between the two.

Thank you for your reply do you think I can push it a little past that like 6.5 if can get up there I stopped it at 5800 as wasn’t sure but think had little more left in there definitely more than 200 rpm

Find a 23" pitch prop.

Make sure your tach is correct and prop is not cavitating. What is your speed at 5800?

It’s showing about 40 /41 mph but I pull it back then at about 5500 it’s like 37/39 depending.

it’s hard at the moment in the UK to get a nice day to take it out very choppy out there atm

thats alot of slip! I do 42mph on my 15' whaler with a 19'' wheel only spinning 5200rpm.
