Mariner Identification

Hello all. I recently purchased a 40HP Mariner. Runs great, plenty of power for my needs. My question is... What year is this engine? The serial is 40EL 6E9 L 423337. Ive been to the serial look up page and cant seem to match it up. The local marine dealers here are no help at all. I would appreciate any information on this engine. Thanks in advance.

You have a 1986 Yamaha Mariner,a Yamaha in all but name.

Thank you for your help. I knew that some of those were made by Yamaha just wasnt sure about this one. That info alone will help alot. Thanks again.
