Looking for suggestions for trolling motor

I have a 17x60 flat bottom Jon boat with 60 horse outboard jet. I like to troll for stripers in the Sacramento river at night and it's tough to get the optimal speed trolling upstream with the Jet. It's either a tad slow or a bit too fast. I'm thinking maybe a 6-8 hp OMC motor but not sure that's the best choice. Important considerations are light weight, reliability and parts availability. I appreciate your suggestions!

I suggest you beg, borrow, rent, or steal a motor of the size you are considering and see if it accomplishes your goal. It just might be a matter of the boat and not the motor.
