Leak in the bilge

Put the boat in the water yesterday and immediately noticed that there was a pretty steady leak coming from the shift cable sheath. Not 100% sure but I think my husband created it when he installed new cables!! Any ideas on the best way to get a better look at where the leak is coming from other than pulling off the entire drive?

Additionally, we now have the problem with the 280 outdrive kicking up while in reverse. I read another thread already on how we should troubleshoot that issue.

Any help is ALWAYS appreciated.

The shift cable sheathe is likely the cause of your leak, especially since a new shift cable was installed.

The OEM sheathe is nothing but a rubber hose that is crimp-sleeved to the fitting.
DO NOT attempt to remove this fitting!
The crimp sleeves are steel and eventually rust out.
When they rust away, the hose looses it's grip on the fitting.... and you'll end up with a small water leak.

Cut about 1" from the sheathe, replace it over the fitting barb (use an adhesive), and use a Euro style band clamp on it.

As for the Reverse Latch unit..... see this thread.

Post back if you have more questions..... I'll see if I can help you.
