johnson tilt

Hi all-I am new here so hope i am doing this right.
I have just bought a boat that came with a (mid 1970's????) 40hp Johnson super quiet motor. Is it possible to get a generic tilt unit for it as it doesn't have it and I am fairly certain they never did -doesn't seem to be a mounting point anyway.

No, there is no tilt unit of any kind available for that engine. Give us the model number of your engine and we'll tell you exactly what year it is.
 
Hi joereeves-thanks for your help. As to the model number -can't find a thing-no plate attached and nothing to show where it might have been.
The only numbers I can see is one near the spark plugs as part of the casting-307759, and another on what looks like a fuel feed rail (but I may be wrong) adjacent to the cylinder head-307306AC.
On the tilt question. I would have thought that some bright person would have made a universal aftermarket tilt mechanism-can't be too hard-even if it was just an electric motor with cable attached to the motor-might even have a go at it myself.
