Johnson Shipmaster control parts

Ok I will do my best to explain; The plastic piece at the end of the transmission cable has broke at the end, by the holding nut, therefore I can not get it to go in Reverse. So my question is; Do I need to replace entire Transmission cable or can I replace the plastic piece?

Should be a set screw on the plastic piece to remove/replace the part.

There are 3 different cable types used on Evinrudes and Johnson's Type 400 type 479 and the universal (LOL which really does not fit 400 or 479) which is the 3rd type.

It is safer to replace the proper cable. I have a "universal" on my V-4 and I have to use a tiny allen wrench to remove the end.
