Johnson 70hp enters SLOW after 10 minutes normal operating at full throttle

I am having an issue. 70hp Johnson runs fine then goes into SLOW . Will come good again once the engine has been allowed to cool down. I am going to change the thermostat and then bypass the sensor. Would you recommend a different course of action? Any help would be much appreciated. Tell tale flow is strong and Luke warm. The head gets fairly warm to touch. Johnson 70hp BJ70VLSIS

when was the last time you changed your water pump impeller?

I have been told that the pickup in the petrol tank was towards the top instead of the bottom. This was causing the engine to run lean and contribute to the overheating. Tell tail water stream is strong and new thermostat has been installed. Thank you for the reply. Much appreciated

What am I missing? A fuel pickup at the top,of the tank would mean you would have to keep the tank full at all times.
