Johnson 115 V4 Rebuild

So last summer I purchased a boat with a 94 115 V4 on the back. Through a few stupid moves on my part and general age of the motor the #1 piston went and scored the cylinder on about 4th trip out. I decided to go through the rebuild myself and am looking forward to the end product!!! I think the piston ring stop pin broke loose and caused the ring to break. Anyone got ideas why??? VRO is working well and don’t think it was any lean condition. Check out the photos to see the damaged piston. Ok trying to figure the whole picture thing out.

Broken piston rings is a very common failure.

Replace all 4 piston or it will happen again, make sure you repair cylinder wall by boring.

I’m doing a total rebuild, all new pistons, rings, bearings, crank bearings, seals, gaskets, carb rebuilds, thermostats, water pump, etc... list goes on lol... it’s already tore apart why not, peace of mind and cheap insurance in my eyes.
