Installing Bearing Housing Seals - Questions

Hey Everyone,

I'm working on re-sealing the lower unit on my 1989 Johnson 110hp VRO V4 J110TLAEM. I keep getting mixed instructions and I can't seem to find a consensus, so I'm hoping someone here can help me out.

- When installing the prop shaft seals into the bearing housing should I be using grease, gasket sealing compound, or nothing?
- If I'm supposed to use a gasket sealing compound would Permatex High Tack Gasket Sealant work?
- Do I use the same thing for the large O-ring for the outside of the bearing housing?

Somewhat off topic but does anyone know the torque spec for the 4 bolts used to hold the bearing housing?

Thanks in advance for any clarity you may provide!!

Would you accept the service manual? It says OMC Gasket Sealing Compound on the seals and grease on the o-rings

It seems like OMC Gasket Sealing Compound is NLA. But your Permatex will be fine.

Screws are 120-144 Inch Pounds

Awesome!! Thanks so much!!

I have the service manual but I could not find that information in there. I'm still trying to learn the layout. I have the online version.
