Idling question

Looking at buying a little 2008ish 6hp mercury that seems to run ok but wont idle, is there anything too worrying about this or is it likely just a dirty carb that needs a service?

Probably just a carb. But ask if it's ever been overheated, or run low on oil. If so, a compression test may be justified. Low compression may be the cause of poor idle too, as well as poor starting.

Check the compression, and make sure the lower unit is in good shape.
