How to replace starter - ‘68 Merc 350S - 35hp

Any old Merc owners out there that can help with replacing a starter on a ‘68 350S?

The old one was out when I got the motor. New one (same size) doesn’t just slide up in there. Something needs to move or I need a smaller starter.
