how to manually tilt a 1984 35 horse merucry motor

hey i was wondering if anyone knows how to manually tilt as in raise and lower a 35 horse 1984 mercury motor. would it need to be in forward to release what locks it in place or?

Outboard needs to be in fwd to tilt as the reverse lock engages in neutral as well as reverse.Providing that this a manual tilt.If power tilt there is a manual release valve on the tilt assembly.
