How can you test a switch box on 4 cylinder 1986 model.

Hi All,

Just wondering if its possible to check if a switch box has started to fail. Been trying to find something but there really doesn't seem to be a black and white way to definitively determine it. The trigger plate is brand OEM part, and confirmed its not that. Depending on what you read my red / red white could have to high a resistance.

The is really no switchbox test. ADI ignition are fairly simple if you know how they work. 1) stator charges capacitor in box 2) trigger tells when and what cylinder to discharge to 3) coil ramps up voltage to plug ..Your ohms specs is fine as should be 125-155. You likely need switchbox but only OEM,Serriaor WSM...no Amazon juck.

OK Thanks OEM is pretty expensive here in Australia, so trying to be 100% sure.

Apparently you need an old out of date DVA meter that you can no longer easily buy.

Sorry----a DVA meter should be easy to buy or possible to make/----U-tube might explain how.

the best approach is make your own adapter...they can be purchased but at huge premiums...

Thanks, I got my hands on a second hand switch box and that fixed the issue.

DVA meters are not hard to buy. Here is the meter that OEM manual relate to..

I replaced mine using part from cdielectronics. Works good no problems. Significantly less expensive than quicksilver. They also have a nice ignition troubleshooting guide as well as instructions on what to test prior to installation so you don't fry your new unit.. The troubleshooting guide is here
