Goat home from the boat ramp today and found a hole in my lower cowling. Took my lower cowling off and found this:

Any ideas? Engine runs fine, didn't hit anything, etc. Thanks in advance

Corrosion hole..if not in oil pan side of block it will soon be. JB weld it and trade it.

Rest of the engine is in pristine condition for something like that to happen. There’s no cloudiness in lower unit, etc. How am I getting saltwater into the block in the first place? I thought it was sealed?

If you were going to try to go about fixing it permanently and not just patching the outside with JB Weld, what would I exactly be trying to replace, the entire block?

Thanks again for the knowledge

The block would have to be welded but your going to find more corrosion issues inside once you open it up. Best bet is to replace block but JB Weld, Marinetex or Devcon should get you thru summer till replacement can be acquired
