Hit Rock Bottom

was out yesterday at a new lake that apparently isn't marked to well. Went through a very shallow area at about 20 mph and hit bottom. It broke the tip off the skeg and took out forward and reverse.
Im guessing a the drive shaft or propeller shaft got totaled, my question is there a particular part that is more prone to breaking or designed to give way in this kind of instance?

1979 mercruiser 140 stern drive

Thanks,
Kevin

Didn't leave it running long enough to see if it over heated. Once we hit the engine revved up like it was in neutral.
Not sure what prop being spun means?
I just wanted to sell it, not put more money in it. :-(

Ayuh,... My guess is the vertical shaft of the lower unit, at the top, at the o-ring groove...

Don't feel bad, one of our Canadian Submarines hit bottom rocks off Vancouver last week. Your fix will probably be less expensive.

The rubber on the prop now spins = spun prop.

Do you hear it shifting but the boat don't move? Then it could be the prop. spun. Or the coupler went. 1979 boat.

The drive is twice as good as a gen 2.

Or the shaft went. or the gears went.

What you want is the prop spun. Cheapest.

I think it's the coupler. or prop.
