Help- check engine alarm codes. 2000 150 johnson

I have a 2000 johnson 150hp that the check engine alarm sounds on any rpm above 1800. I have replaced the bulb and fuel filter with no success. Bulb pumps fine at the engine but seems different when hooked at the motor. What are the codes to steer me in the right direction and how do i get them without a code reader.

I retired in 1991 from OMC and am not familiar with the "Check Engine Alarm Sound". Does it compare with any of the following?
********************
(VRO Horn Warnings)
(J. Reeves)

NOTE: I retired around 1991/92. Possibly some of the later V4 engines and others may also incorporate a fuel vacuum switch that would enable a fuel restriction warning to sound as mentioned below, an unknown factor to myself.

1 - A steady constant beep = Engine Overheating - The V/6 engines, some others, have a "Fuel Restriction Warning" which is also a steady constant beep.

2 - A beep every 20 or 40 seconds = oil level has dropped to 1/4 tank. (Late model engine = Every 40 seconds)

3 - A beep every other second = VRO failure, air leak in oil line, oil restriction, (anything that would result in a lack of oil being supplied to the engine).

NOTE - If the warning horn is the black plastic (overpriced) three wire type horn, the warning horn should beep once when the ignition key is turned to the ON position. If it does not, it is either faulty or someone has disconnected it (a stupid move!). At any rate, if it does not beep which indicates that the horn is non functional, find out why and do not run the engine until the problem is corrected.

Thanks joe! This model has a "check engine" alarm which is a constant beep. It also has a "overheat" alarm which is not sounding. I do get the beep when the key is turned on. Do you know where the fuel vacuum switch is located. The motor starts and idles just fine but i have to pump the bulb alot to get it to firm up. I am stumped. Thanks.

Since your engine is a 2000 model, I'm not familiar with the design, "However"..... the vacuum setup would be the same.

Inspect the incoming fuel line at the power-head for a "Tee" fitting that has a smaller OD, usually leading upwards. The other end of that "Tee" would be connected to the Vacuum Switch.

In my day, the overheat and fuel restriction alarm was the same... a constant steady beeeeeeeeeeeppppp whereas one would do some troubleshooting to eliminate one or the other cause.

What is the difference in the "Beep" sound between a overheating problem and a fuel restriction one on your 2000 engine? I've never heard that mentioned before.

Need the model #. Is this a FICHT motor or carb model. If it's a FICHT you will need to do some research. Or look for daselbee on this forum he is good with the ficht motors if he can't help you, you will be going to the dealer.

Thanks for the help. I will try to check the vacuum as you described. This is a ficht injection motor. The guage at the key switch shows 4 different modes including "heat", "engine" and "oil". I have never heard the alarm for overheat so i don't know. The check engine light is the only light that comes on when the alarm sounds with a constant beep.
Thanks,
mike
