Fuel Filter Questions

Hello,

I spent the last couple months getting a Johnson 115Hp 1983 (J115TLCTE specifically) up and running.

I finally got it turn key start and very happy with it, but have noticed there is no fuel filter (besides the mesh in the fuel pump).

Motor is mounted on an old bass boat and I tracked the fuel line and there no filter in the boat either.

Looking to protect my work, so I'm trying to figure out if a fuel filter is need/ a good idea? I've heard weird story's of 2 strokes and fuel filters so I'm hesitant.

(This seems like it should be google-able but I only find discussions on inline filters or things assuming you already have one. Sorry if this is dumb...)

Thank you for your help!

Fuel filters are smart. I would put on an in-line clear old fashioned automotive filter so you can see what's going into your motor. They are available in 5/16" or 3/8". I think your motor should have a 3/8" line.
