Float issue on 70hp Evinrude?

Hi there,
We have had intermittent loss of power, and when we pulled the intake manifold off the lower carb was spewing fuel in the location identified in the photo. Float issue, seal? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If the float is good and adjusted properly... and the float needle valve assembly seals properly, the cause of flooding has always been that the air vent to the float chamber is clogged with some sort of debris.

That air vent on most carburetors has always been difficult to find as it's pretty well hidden. Holding the upper body in ones hand and viewing the bottom portion of it, there will be a hole somewhere leading to the outside.

If the hole your arrow points to leads to the bottom of the upper portion to be a air vent... the float or float needle valve would be the cause.

With the carburetor body held upside down, the float being viewed from the side, adjust the float so that the free end of the float (the end opposite the hinge pin) is ever so slightly higher (just ever so slightly off level) than the other end. And when viewed from the end, make sure it is not cocked.

Let us know what you find.

Thank you!

Yes the hole that is identified is the air vent. :) We will give that a go and see, we planned to do that if everyone agreed! :)
