Finding a new lower end for a 9.9hp

Hi currently im looking for a new lower end for my 1988 9.9elg yamaha motor, i currently hqve tried to order this part number twice (6E7-45311-02-EK) off boats.net and partsvu. Each time ive ordered it they refund me and say they dont have it in stock even though thier website still states they do. Basically I'm wondering if the newer ones for the current 9.9s online are backwards compatible at all or if theres somewhere else i should look.
