evinrude lower half removal

hi i have a 1971 evinrude 6 outboard im trying to remove the lower half but have sheared 3 of the 4 bolts that hold it on now i can get it to budge has any 1 got any idears thanks

Sounds like a good unit to scrap and part out. Has it been in saltwater? Broken bolt extraction on those is a mo-fo.

Not sure on your model (I'd have to look) but on some models you have to pull the powerhead to disengage the shift rod.

No need to remove the powerhead for waterpump work on a 71 model !---------Shift connecter is at the joint between exhaust housing and lower unit.
