The yard bottom painted right

The yard bottom painted right up to the transom assembly but not on it. I was advised they should have left an inch unpainted so as not to mess up the eletronic anti-fouling system. Is this true?

"Well, a little change to the verbiage, and you may have it!
The hull's anti-fouling paint can be conductive.... depends on which one was applied.
Paints with copper, for example!

The answer is: Absolutely true if your hull bottom paint is conductive.
You will want a clear/free no paint zone between the drive, fixtures, TT's and Garboard drain plug, etc. Best if just over 1 inch!
If conductive, it will effect the galvanic reaction in/around the aluminum drive components and other hardware that are below the water line if there is no break there!

But don't jump the gun..... play it safe!
First learn what they applied and then approach them. They know better than to have applied conductive paint up to the components, and should offer to remove it for you at no charge if that is what they did!
