Convert 1972 65hp hydro shift powerhead to mechanical shift

Good morning gents,

I have a 1975 70hp evinrude that is tired, with low compression.

I have been gifted an extremely clean and low hour 1972 65hp power head with excellent compression and absolutely zero scoring in the cylinders.

I realize that the 72 is a hydroelectric shift motor and does not come equipped with the boss on the block to accept the 73+ shift rod.

Is there an aftermarket kit available to convert the older motor, or a home brew method that is generally accepted to work well?

if not, is it simply possible to move over the front half of the crank case between the two motors to accomplish the same thing?

thanks for your insight on this, it would be a shame to not be able to use this very nice 72.

cheers,

-Aaron
