clutch dog question.

I have a 1966 33hp that I need to replace the clutch dog and gears, I have found the gears but the clutch dog I still need.

I have read that I can use 312866 instead of the original 305105, just leave out the spring and balls.
I have also read that 312866 is bigger and will not work.
Can anybody clarify?

312866 is listed as the current replacement part.-----Therefor it will work.
