chrysler 318 repower

forgot to mention it is a 1971 revel craft. I am currently looking for a rebuilt motor complete. I have found 1 in new jersey for $3000.00 is that reasonable price? if anyone has resources that would be helpful as well, thanks in advance

A few comments:


Have you considered a 360?
If you end up replacing the other engine in the future, another 360 would be in order.

Steer clear of remanufacturers that are using salt water boat RWC engines for their Re-Mans.
This may perhaps mean that you steer clear of Florida Remanufacturers, and purchase from an inland based company.


Steer clear of any company that is calling this a "True Marine Engine!" (this is a SBC being shown)
This is a lousy choice for a Marine SBC piston selection.
Here's their version of the 318.

Neither of these piston choices can offer any quench area! :mad:

This is a better choice, but no need for double valve reliefs, IMO.
They do this because one piston p/n fits all 8 bores.


The Chrysler 318/360 uses a wedge style combustion chamber very similar to the SBC.
Take advantage of the "quench" surface by saying NO to a non-quench style piston as seen above.

Like said.... there are some similarities between the Chrysler 318/360 and the SBC Marine builds.
You're only a few dollars away from doing it correctly!
With the correct piston profile selection, nothing else needs to change with regard to the build.

This is NOT a Hot Rod build...... it's a build to lesson the liklihood of detonation, and to increase low end torque.


The Chrsyler Wedge Head boys have known about and have used the "Quench Effect" build for years.

You've got nothing to loose by asking for a "Quench" style build.

If when you ask, and if you get this look...........




....... try another remanufacturer! :D
