Chris Craft Issue M-46s

I have a Chrysler M-46s engine in my Chris Craft Sportsman. I have an issue with the engine which seems pretty serious. The engine will start and idle with the choke on. When I remove the choke the engine will race out of control with no throttle applied at all. A lot of black smoke pours out of the engine when this happens. I am not sure it is an oil issue or a carb issue within the engine. Any help will be appreciated.

There is also a small oil relief valve that will pour oil out when the engine is started or turning over. I am not sure what the issue is. I am hoping that the issue is with the carb and not a cracked block or something of that nature. Thanks
 
Try this: With the hatches wide open, CAREFULLY spray carb cleaner about the intake manifold/ head joints and listen for the motor to speed up. A leak will suck in the cleaner and cause the increase.
