carb removal on 1967 65hp 4 cyl. merc

Getting ready to rebuild the carbs on my 1967 65hp merc outboard. In looking at the job it appears there is a lot of wiring that must be moved or removed before getting to the carbs. Is there any easy way or a secret way to get to the carbs without having to remove the wiring? My second question is, is there any syncing problems that can occur after reinstallation of the carbs, and finally what is the correct plug to run on this motor? Parts manual shows a gapped plug but the ones on there now are NGK BUHW's. Thanks for your help!!
 
Thanks for your help. I have taken a few pictures but will take more before I start. Do you know the difference in a 650, 650S and 650SS? How do I tell which my motor is?
