Battery size?

New to me 2005 Nissan 50hp TLDI it has a new marine battery rated at 500 CCA, Nissan site states the 50hp TLDI states this engine requires a 850 CCA battery because of the injection system, however my manual does not make reference to the size of the battery. Which is correct? I hate to toss a new battery if not required. thanks.

Bigger is better to allow the ECU to function while cranking. Too small, and the voltage will droop, causing initialization issues. That said, it depends on your temperature. In really cold weather, a 1000 MCA battery is recommended. So, if in mild conditions, you can likely get by.
