Still working on my friends 1994 J140TXARC and I have hit a wall...new battery this morning and turning over great, still wouldnt fire though. Testing the spark gap strength when I hear kind of a crackling fizzing noise. Now not a dang thing works. Solenoid wont click, starter wont spin...I still have the main harness unplugged and I have unplugged the two yellow wires that join the rectifier to the stator. This will make the solenoid click and it is making a sizzling sound too. So am I right in assuming the rectifier went bad? I really hate that I am thinking about giving up. Thanks for any help.
edit: hooked jumper cables from battery to starter and that still works...gonna replace the solenoid first.
