I have a 97 Johnson 40 hp outboard was running fine lost power and was immediatly shut off. When tried to restart it would start and die, thought it to be the vro fuel pump that I replaced with a convential fule pump, still starts and dies so cleaned and rebuilt carbs, initially set idle screws at 1.5 turns from soft seat motor would start and run for aprox 15 seconds at idle and fire and die at high idle, tried this turning idle screws out to 4 turns with same result. There is visible fuel in the throat of carbs and visible spark at the spark plugs. anyone have ideas??
